Update #4
What a week it‚s been here in the Large bay of Papua New Twenty-one shillings! I‚ve
positively learned what hamlet life is all about this week. Our team of
seven left on Tuesday to go on patrol to villages along the stream and on the coast in disposition to give children course vaccinations and deal by sick or injured patients in the hamlet. Since go on foot in this part of the country is by boat only (or dugout canoe in the covering of the natives), most of the ailing aren‚t versed to be brought to Kapuna hospital.
It was totally an experience to say the least, but overall, a useful
one! We stopped at three villages a day, and we wearied the night in
whatever hamlet we happened to be in when the sun went down. When we reached Old I‚Aire (our first close up) our boat pulled up next to an old, moiety-submerged log sticking out into the moisten. I found out that this was their cut short and was contemplating how get off of the boat and up onto earth carrying my bag without acquisition wet when what I swear was the complete village ran to the stream bank to address us. The adults were clothed but all of the pl of child were naked, carrying bow and arrows made out of topical plants. It was undomesticated. I somehow made it up the log and was looking onward
to standing on impenetrable ground when I realized that the walkways through the hamlet were nothing but logs pendulous over the muddy terrestrial ball. As it turns out, all of the villages are designed this way because the soil is essentially marsh and muddy all the duration. Y‚all who understand me will be very impressed with the thing done that I only slipped once in four days in the villages. Someone was definitely looking out for me.
Each town was much different than I expected! I imagined that most nation would live as they did in my experiences in the tiny towns in Mexico, with family living in shacks and corroding food with diminutive nutritional importance. The villages in PNG in reality seem very untouched by the quiescence of the world, and with the non-inclusion...
