This week has seen the flinch of an effort to bright the Cnocan Defile, Brodick Region Park of Rose-bay ponticum. The Deep and narrow pass is a spectacular, wonderful in that it is just a stones cast in a winding direction from the Castle and in an otherwise unostentatious area. We are employing a team, Skye draw as by a rope Access, to do the operate over a two week circuit. Why Skye? Well, the same team have cleared Corrieshalloch Notch near Ullapool for the Public Trust for Scotland and have proven expertise in this circle. Whilst not such a pure drop as Corrieshalloch, the Deep and narrow pass is home to a course of waterfalls and pools created in the red sandstone. Carriageways used to take the Duchesses and their entourage up to the bathing pools and to derive pleasure from the scenic splendour. Many of the footpaths tread on the heels of the original tracks and you can still see the abutments of the first upper span with a bridge.The guys are laboring on ropes to cut the stems which are then dragged up to the level where they are being chipped using a tracked chipper which can approach these awkward areas. They are using a capstan winch to lug up the stems and the chipper instrument that they don’t have to spend lots of duration burning the impair gradually. The stumps are then treated either by coloring the cut surface with roundup, or by “stipe injection” which instrument drilling a opening and squirting the herbicide in this perforation.
